McKayla Rose Maroney has retired as an American musician and artist. She won the silver and gold medals in vault contests of both the American gymnastics team as well as the Fierce Five in the Summer Olympics in 2012. Early life. McKayla Rose Maroney, daughter of Erin (died in 2019) and Mike Maroney, was born on December 9th on the 9th of December, 1995 in Aliso Viejo. McKayla's Irish Catholic background is her family heritage. She had two brothers, Tarynn & Kav. Her homeschooling was completed to prepare her for elite gymnastics.
